The RPI is known as a regenerative drive. This means it incorporates energy recovery. The upward movement of a car creates electrical power when it is holding a few customers or during a downward movement of the car when transporting many people. With conventional drives, this energy is lost to the outside setting in heat form. In contrast, with the RPI drive, the energy is fed back to the electrical supply of the machinery. It can then be used for other purposes. As a result of this mechanism, you can save up to 39% of energy costs.

Regenerative energy is produced by an elevator motor operating in overhaul condition when the motor acts as the generator. Energy is gained on elevator descent when the car is heavier than the counterweight, and it is provided on elevator ascent when the counterweight is heavier than the car. In older models, this generated energy was lost through resistors as heat into the room. With the use of Regenerative Drives, the energy can be fed back into the building as clean, safe energy.

Another superb feature of the RPI drive is the 1-contactor technology. This feature means you can reduce the switching operations of the travel contactor.
