The Altivar 16 is an early Telemecanique drive controller for three-phase asynchronous motors, sold in North America under the Square D name.
A catalogue number reads ATV16, a power code and a supply code, and the power code is in kVA rather than kW: U09 is 0.9 kVA and 0.37 kW, U90 is 9.0 kVA and 5.5 kW. M2 is the 208/240 V supply, single phase on U09 and U18 and single or three phase on U29 and U41; N4 is 400/460 V, three phase only, and the only family with input phase loss protection. Output runs 0.1 to 50/60 Hz with 150 per cent transient overtorque from 5 Hz upward.
Schneider discontinued it in 1998, ended service in 2003 and now points enquiries at the ATV320. Two things catch people out on the bench: the DC bus reaches 385 V on an M2 and 790 V on an N4 under load, and early units label the bus measurement terminals J211/J212, J104/J105 or J110/J112 rather than J8- and J9+.
