About

A unit plated CPI, MFC or CPI/MFC is the same drive: LiftEquip and thyssenkrupp Aufzugswerke use both names for one inverter line, and the ratings tables head each column twice, once as a CPI power class and once as an MFC power class. It is a pulse-width-modulated inverter with an IGBT power stage running closed-loop field-oriented current vector regulation.

Two package levels exist: MFC 20/21 is the standalone inverter, supplied with a separate mains filter and power choke, and carries no UCM measures. MFC 30/31 is the plug and play build, with brake control, filter, choke and travel contactors wired inside the housing, and is a V3 unit for EN 81-20 unintended car movement duty. In each pair the lower number is asynchronous software, the higher synchronous.

Supply is 3 AC 400 V without neutral, and the line is rated to 2.0 m/s geared and 3.5 m/s gearless. The R sizes swap the external braking resistor for an active regenerating front end.

Key Features

  • Closed-loop current vector regulation with field-oriented motor management

  • Rated to 2.0 m/s geared and 3.5 m/s gearless

  • MFC 30/31 arrives plug and play, with brake control, filter, choke and travel contactors wired in

  • One hardware set for asynchronous and synchronous machines, separated only by the installed software

  • R sizes regenerate actively and hold fifth-harmonic current below 8 per cent

  • MFC 30/31 is a V3 build for EN 81-20 unintended car movement, with HSD hardware shutdown integrated

Range Specifications

ManufacturerLiftEquip GmbH (formerly part of thyssenkrupp Elevator)
SeriesCPI/MFC frequency inverters: MFC 20/21 and MFC 30/31
Also known asCPI. LiftEquip heads the same ratings columns with both "Power class CPI" and "Power class MFC20", refers to the line as the CPI/MFC series, and nameplates read CPI/MFC
VariantsMFC 20 & 30 for asynchronous machines; MFC 21 & 31 for synchronous machines; R sizes for energy regeneration
Motor Power Range5 kW to 105 kW across the sizes listed below
Line Voltage Range3 AC 380 V -10% to 415 V +10%
Nominal Output Voltage3 AC 350 V (MFC 20/21)
Total Efficiency0.97 (MFC 20/21, all sizes); 0.97 on sizes 10 to 60 and 0.94 on the R sizes (MFC 30/31)
EnclosureIP20 (MFC 20/21 manual). On the MFC 30/31 the same unit is rated IP21 as a CPI and IP20 as an MFC, the stated reason being "due to built-in parameterization table (not IP21)"
Package Contents (MFC 20/21)Inverter, mains filter and power choke; braking resistor in a separate housing
Package Contents (MFC 30/31)As above plus brake controller and travel contactors, wired and integrated in the housing
InterfacesParallel or DCP interface; DCP4 inverter package available
Supply SystemsTN and TT power supply systems
Typical ApplicationsLift & elevator machines
Product StatusStill presented by LiftEquip as a current product. For MFC 30/31 LiftEquip publishes replacement devices: CT09G, CT26G, CT40G and CT60G with Variant LE

An optional IP54 protection class appears on LiftEquip drive-unit specification pages rather than on an MFC datasheet, and does not appear in any 2020 or 2021 manual, so it is left out of the table above as indicative rather than confirmed. Ambient temperature, humidity, altitude and switching frequency are given only in the MFC operating manuals, which LiftEquip releases to registered users.

Figures are from the LiftEquip general catalogue, issue 09/2015. The catalogue also lists input currents, line fuses, conductor cross sections, losses and fan airflow for each size, which we have left out here for readability and can supply on request. Two points to note: LiftEquip's website FAQ table gives a maximum current of 118 A for the MFC 20/21-105 where the catalogue gives 180 A, and lists a plug and play size 30/31-32 at the same 42 A / 67 A that the catalogue calls size 40. The MFC 30/31 width figures were recovered from a text version of the catalogue and are our best reading. Please confirm against your unit, or send us the details and we will identify it.

The MFR series (MFR 5.5, 7.5 and 18 with integrated energy recovery) and the earlier 1997-generation MFC-16 are separate product lines and are not covered above.
