The FR-A700 was the machine-drive member of Mitsubishi Electric’s FREQROL 700 generation, introduced in 2006, discontinued in 2016 and replaced by the FR-A800. The control set is the high-function one: V/F, Advanced magnetic flux vector and Real sensorless vector control as standard, with closed-loop vector control available once an FR-A7AP or FR-A7AL encoder option is fitted.

Unlike the FR-A800 it publishes a single rating rather than four selectable duty settings, 150 per cent for 60 s across the whole range. Output frequency reaches 400 Hz, falling to 120 Hz under Real sensorless vector and vector control. The model number is direct: FR-A720 for 200 V, FR-A740 for 400 V, then the inverter capacity in kilowatts with a trailing K.

Mitsubishi calls the FR-A800 a suitable drop in replacement in most cases, but flags design and dimensional changes above 125 HP at 200 V and 450 HP at 400 V, so a large-frame swap is not automatic.
