Commander CD was Control Techniques’ general purpose AC inverter drive for induction motors, sold in seven ratings from CD75 to CD750 where the digits give the motor power, 0.75 kW at CD75 up to 7.5 kW at CD750. Output current runs from 2.1 A to 16.0 A at 100 per cent RMS. Units from CD220 upward are fan cooled, and the switching frequency options are 2.9, 5.9, 8.8 and 11.7 kHz.
The drive is generous with hardwired terminals: four analogue inputs, including a torque reference and a motor thermistor, two analogue outputs for frequency and load, nine digital inputs and two digital outputs. Control logic is negative by default, where the Commander SE that replaced it is positive.
Dynamic braking is not on board and needs either the IN61 internal braking card or the IN56 external braking unit, into a resistor of at least 47 ohms. The second generation carries the designation CD2.
