The Varispeed 616G5 is Yaskawa’s multi-function all-digital general-purpose inverter, model number CIMR-G5A, and the same hardware Omron catalogued as the SYSDRIVE 3G3FV, so a repair on one badge is a repair on the other. The part numbers do not translate: where Yaskawa writes CIMR-G5A23P7, Omron writes 3G3FV-A2037.
Thirty-seven models are catalogued, the 200 V class from 0.4 to 75 kW and 3.2 to 300 A, the 400 V class from 0.4 to 300 kW and 1.8 to 605 A. Overload capacity is 150 per cent of rated current for one minute over a 0.1 to 400 Hz control range, and four control modes are standard, with open loop vector as the factory setting and flux vector control, which needs a pulse generator, giving a 1:1000 speed range.
The nameplate repays a second look before work starts: its SPEC field ends in a version letter, and functions marked SPEC:F exist only on units lettered F or later.
