About

The Yaskawa VM is the Varispeed-626VM3 family, an AC spindle drive line for numerically controlled machine tools, not a general purpose inverter. The small capacity branch, the Varispeed-626VM3C, order code CIMR-VMC, is 200 V only: six models from 0.4/0.2 kW to 5.5/3.7 kW. Speed comes from the motor encoder rather than a frequency reference, and the drive is supplied as a matched package with a Yaskawa UAASK series spindle motor.

The specification is written around spindle duty: a 15-minute rating, an overload of 120 per cent for 60 seconds, a 1:200 speed control range and braking into a separately supplied resistor. The larger Varispeed-626VM3, order codes CIMR-VMS and CIMR-VMW, runs from 3.7/2.2 kW to 37/30 kW and uses a power regenerative stage instead.

The model number on its own is not enough: the SPEC number carries the enclosure style and cooling arrangement. Drive and motor are a matched pair, so the motor plate matters as much as the drive plate.

Required power capacity is the input figure from the Yaskawa standard specifications table; the manufacturer's dimensions table prints a slightly different kVA column for the same models. Yaskawa also produced a larger Varispeed 626VM3 family (CIMR-VMS standard and CIMR-VMW winding-selection types) covering 3.7/2.2 kW to 37/30 kW across 200 V and 400 V classes, which is a separate product line.
