The Varispeed G7 is Yaskawa’s advanced vector general purpose inverter, CIMR-G7C in Europe and CIMR-G7U in the United States. The European range is 41 models, 0.4 to 110 kW on 200 V and 0.4 to 300 kW on 400 V. Four control methods are selected by constant: flux vector, open loop vector 1 or 2, V/f without PG and V/f with PG.
The G7’s distinction is the 400 V output stage, which Yaskawa published as the world’s first 480 V three-level general purpose inverter. Its neutral-point clamped topology uses four series IGBTs per phase, so each device sees half the voltage of a two-level bridge, reducing surge voltage at the motor terminals, shaft voltage and bearing current on long cables.
That topology also decides a repair: four IGBTs per phase leg instead of two changes what a power stage rebuild involves. The enclosure is carried in the SPEC number rather than the model number, so capture the whole plate.
